13 Taylor Swift Songs That Are Giving Poet
Hi hi hi.
How am I, you ask?
I’m this version of the great Cristina Yang and it’s only Wednesday night.
I love it. I feel so alive. Pained and tortured (complimentary), like, “Mother, can I have another?” But bursting with energy and grateful as ever.
Today, it’s time to give some love to 13 Taylor lyrics/verses/bridges, etc that I feel are particularly poem-y, which as I said yesterday feels slightly different from poetic in my head. Like all the poetic lines aren’t necessarily poem-y, but all the poem-y lines are definitely poetic.
I also hold that certain examples of her writing are more akin to a traditional poetry conversation (though not of all the same poetry sub-genres) than others and that is why they shall be highlighted forthwith.
To my mind, all songs are poems and all songwriters are poets. Period. Today’s lesson is Taylor Alison Swift the Poet™.
First, though, we need to go through what’s going on in the present day lead-up to The Tortured Poets Department release at midnight on April 19.
Current Shenanigans In Play:
The truest Swifties are never hinged, but we are all off the rails right now and will be for the foreseeable future. There are many “HELP” and “FUCKKKKKKK” texts coming out of my phone, that’s for sure.
We now have a countdown ticking down on her website, if you go to taylorswift.com/forafortnight that will hit its mark at 2 PM ET tomorrow. I feel like there’s a good chance it’s a merch drop, but it obviously could be something more—and that’s terrifying/exhilirating.
There’s been no TTPD merch aside from the vinyls/CDs/cassettes thus far, so…
Oh, and the way we got here was via QR codes in different cities around the globe that each revealed a letter that eventually spelled “for a fortnight”. AHHHHHHHHHH.
