After Modric and co, where is Croatias next generation coming from?

The generational difference between Croatia and Spain in the teams’ meeting at Euro 2024 couldn’t have been more stark.

While Spain flew around the pitch thanks to the energy of youngsters like Lamine Yamal and Pedri, Croatia laboured. By contrast, they looked old.

That is, in no small part, because Croatia are old.

Their starting lineup against Spain was the oldest selected at Euro 2024 so far. Luka Modric is 38. Marcelo Brozovic is 31. Ante Budimer is 32.

This is a generation that has achieved incredible success for the Vatreni. Croatia reached the 2018 World Cup final and the semi-finals in 2022. But will come after Modric and co. step aside?

Where is the country’s next generation coming from?
