hey gang, triple feature this week, a rapid fire thingy kinda. just wanna cover these covers cuz they’re all great in their own right. enjoy!!!

Brent Faiyaz

first off, i have not a clue who did the type work + design for this cover, which fucking majorly sucks so much, as i really adore it, its very well done. i just know it was shot by Bobby Banks. its possible he did the design too, but he didn’t mention it on his instagram. after some DIGGINGGGG through a million pages, i found a bunch of @s, no clue who did what tho!

next to brent’s only other studio album, Sonder Son, i’m loving the range here in styling. just the bright golden yellow and illustrative style of the first, to the moody and dark graphic nature of the second.

brent has always gone for this old school r&b/hip-hop aesthetic, with hazy, grainy photography and retro type. i think it fits his dark music and polished wardrobe.

i love the composition here, although i think it might be more interesting if everything was stuck up to the top of the page, rather than perfectly centered.

the type work is lovely, that bold and textured futura as the album logo is gorgeous and attention grabbing, laid over with the stylised handwritten wasteland “W”.

the widely kerned “brent faiyaz” type works nicely as an understated contrast to the bold title type, and i think if it wasn’t there the cover would feel lacking in some way.

my fav rnb singer since he came to the scene!!! love this dude, love his buttery ass voice lol, he floats over every track i love his entire discography, not a single song i don’t adore. pls listen if you haven’t!!! im gonna design for him one day, hear me clearly!!

next to giv’s only other studio album, there isn’t much range here, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. his styling has been quite consistent, along with his music, but it’s always evolving.

this new cover was shot by Grant Spanier, and designed by Amaya Segura. Amaya did so much for this release, the cover, his new airbrushed logo, the tracklist, the merch, the entire physical release packaging + layout, she killed it!! go check her other stuff out and follow along :)

yeah this cover nails the moody vibe giveon crafted on this album perfectly. Amaya’s airbrushing here compliments Grant’s photography so well, i even love the little sparkle on his jacket button. the way it matches with his shiny choker, such good attention to detail!! don’t know if that was added in post but either way. super good.

Soccer Mommy

oh mannnn this cover is sick. its clearly a nod to science textbook diagrams, with the projected amoeba i think it is?? over soccer mommy in the background. the thin lined square and arrow matching with the simple type is great, works so well and the reference is super clear! even the little “3.” in the top corner!! so simple and clever and well done.

again, i dont know who did the design here, nobody’s been credited as far as i know (which hey sucks!!!! shit needs to change wtf!!!!) i don’t even know who shot the cover!! thats new!!!

everybody here is credited except the people who did the visuals, so thats so awesome :)

similarly to giveons cover, this one is very hazy, but more textured than his. soccer mommy herself is blurred out in motion, so you can’t really make her out, but it’s a great contrast to the sharp graphics over her.

cool cover, but again, please credit visual artists, this shit sucks man its so demoralising :( we work so insanely hard just like any producer or mastering engineer, everyone deserves their flowers.
