Cala D'Or: Why We Keep Going Back

We are home from our 6th trip to Inturotel, Cala D’Or in 4 years. A holiday that I’ve shared in the past on instagram and which has become one of my most frequently asked topics ever. At last count over 100 followers have booked and visited and I lost count after meeting 10 families on my most recent trip.

Six trips in 4 years to the same resort. Allergic to resorts, beaten tracks and kids disco’s, I rejected the notion of the typical family holiday, when we became parents I vowed never to become those parents - but here we are.

We started strong.
When my first baby was 12 weeks old, we toured Tuscany staying in Lucca, a well-preserved Renaissance walled town with it’s many fine 16th-century palaces, galleries, piazza’s and wine bars and set to sail to Isola d’Elba, an Italian island in the Tyrrhenian Sea.

It was an outstanding success. We were living our holiday dreams with a young baby in tow who would be fed on demand as we soaked ourselves in our life of old.

Naivety brought us on our second trip when she was 18 months old to Sicily.
Landing in Palermo to a heatwave we rented a car and drove to Cefalù, and on to one of the most spectacular beach towns San Vito Lo Capo.
Both of which were everything we ever wanted in a holiday - except this time our very mobile and very decisive toddler was not impressed.

Our ideals and our realities were no longer aligned.
We were no longer the culture snobs we aspired to be.
For us to travel well, we now had to find a place that was right for her as much as it was right for us.

I conceded our next adventure would be to a family resort - but I drafted my non-negotiables…

  • Walking distance to the sea - a clear aquamarine melt away dreamy, safe sea

  • Traditional food + wine, in this case Tapas, Seafood and Tinto.

  • A town that puts itself to bed, preferably by 10pm

  • Weather that is warm + bright in the shoulder seasons

  • A 2 hour flight (ish)

Beyond this, as long as she could swim, play and nap comfortably, I was happy.
We found and booked Inturotel in 2019 and 4 years later we have returned 6 times.

But more than that - over 100 of my followers have also placed their faith for that rare but wonderful family holiday, in my recommendation.

10 of which I met in the pool, playground, dinners & disco on my most recent trip.
