Charlottes Lobster Pound throws in the towel, announces final season

SOUTHWEST HARBOR, May 17, 2022 - Charlotte’s Legendary Lobster Pound, one of the most beloved businesses in town, has posted on Facebook and on a sign next to the restaurant, that this will be its final season.

“It is with heavy hearts we announce that 2022 will be our final season for Charlotte’s Legendary Lobster Pound. We will be here through our normal schedule, (Memorial Day Weekend, through October 31), but as it stands now, we have been placed in an impossible situation with insurmountable odds.

“We have risen to the challenge of every curveball thrown our way over the past 11 seasons, (including Covid), but this present situation with the removal of all of our roadside parking, is something we will not be able to overcome.”

Owner Charlotte Gill was referring to the objections raised by her neighbor Aimee Jellison Williams, whose brother select chair George Jellison marshaled the town police to declare her business unsafe because of the traffic generated.

That led other neighbors to construct parking barriers.

As of this writing, she received 191 comments on her Facebook page, mostly expressing outrage at the town’s actions. https://www.facebook.com/SawyersLobsterPound/

“In any case we look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces this summer,” she stated.

“It’s been an honor to serve you for all these years, to share your laughter, (and sometimes even your tears).

“There is still time to come and make more memories this upcoming season, and we look forward to seeing you all, with open arms.”
