Chicken & Waffle Synchs - by Grant Wamack
Sorry for the wait y’all. It’s been a hefty break since the last newsletter went out. Life’s been doing the damn thing and I’m going through a lot of internal changes and being open to whatever comes my way. I deactivated my Twitter temporarily for a little break, but I’ll be back soon enough…
I had a weird series of synchs happen not so long ago, revolving around chicken and waffles. A girl I work with said she never heard of chicken and waffles despite living in LA forever. Everyone was shocked. Appalled. I wasn’t that surprised. We patiently explained the concept which I guess does sound pretty crazy when you think about the food elements involved.
The next day while riding the bus I read the first story in
’s new short story collection God is Wearing Black (Sold out btw). Guess what the title was…chicken and waffles. Surprise, surprise. The prose had me levitating and gave me that inspiration jolt I’m always looking for. The Broken River Books crew is highly competitive. We push each other to write better, stretching creative muscles, doing gymnastics on the page…I take these signs as confirmation that I’m on the right path. So that’s a relief. The writing itch is hitting me in a major way and I’m getting a craving for chicken and waffles.
Sergetrigger invited me onto the Untitled Talky Show to chop it up about my newest novel Bullet Tooth. We talked about how it could be adapted into a first person shooter or RPG game along with designer suspenders, book influences, drill music, the legend of Big Poliano, and more.
I watched No One Will Save You with a friend of mine recently and it was a good time. This girl tries her best to survive an alien invasion in a small town. It sounds like overly-done territory, but this flick manages to breathe new life into the subgenre. Ole girl is resourceful, and will do anything to survive including killing aliens left and right. Highly recommended and contains some real thrills.
Sorry this damn book has been taking so long. Maybe’s it’s Mercury Retrograde, but I’ve been experiencing a lot of delays with getting physical copies in hand. I’m hoping to have them by the end of next month if all goes well. With that being said, you can still order a copy the Dark Oblivion Edition of Bullet Tooth here. Only 50 will ever be printed. Super rare ish.
The OG himself Duvay Knox aka
showed Kelby Losack aka a lotta love for his fantastic novella Hurricane Season. And he always shows me love in conjuction with Kelby. You can read the shoutout at the end of the review above. Knox gets what I’m doing artistically and I’m thankful for that. Pick up his books if you haven’t already and read the rest of the article here.Writing has been all over the damn place. I tinkered with a screenplay and somehow resumed work on Motorpapi Chronicles 2. A vital idea came to me out of thin air for Motorpapi Chronicles 3 which is absolutely insane. If you’re familiar with the series, just know the S.W.A.M.P. will come back time and time again in the most intimate ways possible. If you don’t know, you still have time to get hip by buying book one— Melancholy’s Finest. This is the one movie studios has been looking at so…
Also, found time to work on Project Goblin 5000 (another cool ass codename) that is slowly blooming.

Sauce Walka is prolly the South’s best kept secret. He walks that fine line between drippy trap music and soulful hiphop. I’m happy to see him leaning more and more into his lyrcisim especially on “1 AM in Houston.” This boa’s taking off, full flight.
Rozay has thrown himself headfirst into the 20 man assault against BBL Drizzy and I’m thankful he has. Ross brings a tongue-in-cheek element that lightens the load, but don’t let that take away from the fact his lyricism is sharp, creating one of the most luxurious disses I’ve ever heard.
It’s nice seeing Nas maintain his heralded place in hiphop for so long. It seems like he’s caught a 5th wind despite being in the game for decades. High level raps combined with a real love for the artform, makes this a must listen. Shoutout to the veterans.
This is a banger that has been on repeat the last couple weeks. A song that’s enhanced by vintage WWF visuals that only real ones know. GERM has a way of getting me hype and his new album Every Dog Has Its Day goes crazy.
Until next time…
