Hey Tegan (and Sara),
Happy birthday! I hope it went well and having to cancel a show didn’t make it feel sucky!
I personally hate it when my birthday doesn’t go as planned. I love to plan my birthday and what I and my parents will do. These days I have a very flexible schedule, but lists and organising things was part of how I felt like I had some control over my life while I was in the school system. That’s a long winded way of saying I’ve always liked my birthdays although I know what you mean about birthdays and Christmas sometimes feeling anticlimactic. Sometimes I plan it and then it sucks anyway, sometimes Christmas doesn’t feel right because it’s not going how I thought or I don’t have my mum’s whole side of the family there, or my favourite cousins can’t come, etc.
I do like to celebrate yours and Sara’s birthday though! Every year since I’ve been a fan, I watch (and add to) videos I made (just for myself) of clipped together parts of bits of your music videos over the years, then photos over the years, then the closest thing I can currently do to a Tegan and Sara concert, watch a whole bunch of recordings of songs, usually preparing the links in advance and putting them in order of oldest to newest. I also do a similar thing to celebrate my birthday and what I call my ‘Tegan and Sara anniversary’ which was the day I discovered your music.
I hope you both had a great birthday and day off! Hope you got to see your partners and Sid and all the fur babies!
