Doctor Who Star Beast: Starstruck!
Welcome to my last post in my Secret History of Comics! I’ve shared all my anecdotes and insider knowledge on Marshal Law, Charley’s War, and now Doctor Who! Last week the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special of the Star Beast aired and I shared the first part of my Star Beast experience:

Secret History: Doctor Who Star Beast Regenerated!

This week is my last post on Doctor Who and it’s about the truly magical experience I had on the film set of Star Beast. You can catch some of that magic in the BBC’s Doctor Who: Unleashed, in which Dave Gibbons and I briefly feature, although I was so starstruck to meet David Tennant, you’ll barely hear me say a word on screen!
All the Doctor Who posts are collected and published in my new book Pageturners: How To Create Iconic Stories From The Creator of 2000AD, out now as e-book and paperback.
My paying subscribers have all received a free e-book copy of Pageturners (if you’ve recently become a subscriber and haven’t got your copy, let me know). We’ll send out signed paperback copies to Iconoblast’s Founding Members as soon as we get our hands on them. Thanks for all your support!

“The Meep! I love that story. I love it, I love it. It is the best story in the world.
Sometimes I think, there’s no better story.” Russell T. Davies

Last week in Star Beast Regenerated I left you on a cliffhanger as we entered the new Tardis for the first time…
…It was equally vast!
It filled a studio hangar and had a surreal Escher-like quality.
I’m so used to watching the Tardis on TV screens, so this was vast by comparison. And I think the new Tardis is even vaster. This was a gob-smacking moment and it was no time to drink coffee!
Actually, before we saw the Tardis, we saw something equally amazing: a fully built house where I assumed Sharon/Rose/Yasmin lived. The house was fantastic—classic upgraded Victorian semi, right down to the tiles in the entrance hall. Once again, no detail was too small.
And inside …
Well, I just had to forget the coffee again, because there were more astonishing images! The outside wall of a 2022-era kitchen-diner had been blasted open—by the Wrarth in their pursuit of the Meep. There was debris everywhere with lots of small touches that really conveyed how this house was lived in. But also filled—I suspect—with Whovian extra touches and Easter eggs that might only be spotted on the umpteen watch and freeze-frame. I shall be amongst those diligently checking them out.
I wanted to linger and soak up every detail, mentally recording it, but we were quickly ushered through into the back garden and saw there was another savage hole in the bedroom wall above. The Wrarth wanted the Meep badly!
