First Time Entering the World of Diamond Dynasty

Since I just started getting into playing MLB The Show when the ‘22 edition came out, my favorite mode has always been Road To The Show. Franchise mode was the only other game mode I played other than RTTS. That was until today.

With the major league baseball season underway, I have been craving some additional baseball. I haven’t started Franchise mode yet (I will soon), and for whatever reason, my RTTS file corrupted, so I had to start a new RTTS. Due to that dilemma, my frustration grew, and I logged off the game. Instead, I went to Twitch to watch some of my favorite streamers of the game, including RayCheesy21, Kriner, and Frostie_19

After watching them for quite some time and watching them play Diamond Dynasty I decided to finally try the game mode. To be honest, I always feel completely overwhelmed with DD. Most of what I hear from streamers of gamers are, “Do you have this card?” When I ask them why they love DD so much, they usually reply, “I love the collecting aspect.” There usually isn’t any elaboration on that statement, so I had to try it out for myself. And guess what? So far, I love it!

First, I finally figured out how to download and upload logos for my Diamond Dynasty team. Whenever I play fantasy baseball, I name my team The Bad News Bears (the greatest baseball movie of all time). I wanted to do the same for my DD team, so I did. Admittedly, it took me a while to figure it out, but here is how my uniforms turned out.

What do you think? As you see I landed Byron Buxton and Ha-Seong Kim cards to begin. I also was able to land a Roberto Clemente card. I believe if you pre-ordered the game, you got some extra packs to start off. I waited for the game to come out on Xbox Game Pass, and also want to build my team from scratch without purchasing any packs or anything like that. Here is my team lineup as of a few days ago.

Not the greatest to start, but this team will be legit. Typically, I enjoy rebuilding bad teams in franchise mode, so this should be a pretty similar journey. I don’t plan on going through this journey blindfolded though. This is a video that I watched that helped me tremendously to start and could help someone else who is planning to begin Diamond Dynasty for the first time as well.

It’s not a process I am going to take too seriously. It won’t be an intense chase for cards or anything like that, but I plan to build a powerhouse to compete online. I played one game with this team against a CPU-controlled MLB team (on All-Star difficulty) to test things out. After one game, I quickly realized the importance of quality hitters and my lack thereof. This will be a lot harder than I thought, but it will be a fun ride. Any additional help or tips would be appreciated.

In addition to that, I mentioned earlier that the RTTS character I wrote about last week no longer exists. My file corrupted somehow, and had to start fresh. To update you all, I remained a first baseman; this time, I was drafted in the 2nd round by the Los Angeles Angels. I am beginning as the 26th-best prospect in baseball. Tons of fun ahead in this game!

The first drop of the Season 1 awards program launched yesterday and many in the community have issues. The point of contention is that the program packs, which include a choice of five players, including a juicy 92 overall Oneil Cruz, cost 30,000 stubs each, and there is no way to earn them (at least so far) in the program.

Now, that could change as more drops come, but as of today, there is concern that MLB the Show has become pay-to-play. After all, 30,000 stubs are hard to come by (especially with the current state of flipping), making mom’s credit card an enticing option for some.

I’m in wait-and-see mode, but I agree with Ance who would like to see a path to get more packs - even if that path is a pain in the ass.

Heyna looks at the top starting pitchers in the game right now.
