Grub of the Day #27: Oak and Pie
Today I ventured out east on Greenwich road to Oak and Pie, a restaurant known for its wine and pizza. However, that’s not what brought me in today. I mean don’t get me wrong, I definitely indulged in a slice but after seeing an ad for their Italian nachos my mission was dead set on trying them.
Before ordering I noticed that they had several specials throughout the week. Tuesday being discounted Italian nachos which we were just a day too late for but fortunate that on Wednesday, kids eat free!
My daughter enjoyed the build-your-own pizza that came with the kids menu, strategically placing each pepperoni.
Now did I say to try the nachos earlier? Cause what I meant was devour. These nachos were one of the best takes I’ve had on Italian nachos. The chips are made from fried wonton wrappers, which gave them that perfect crunch. This was certainly an appetizer you’ll be fighting over for the last bite.
Now I hardly go anywhere without grabbing a salad so I ordered the Caesar to keep it simple. Nothing really that impressive here, but they do offer a couple of other options for those looking to be a bit adventurous.
The entree was something I was personally torn between until a thought occurred to me. Why not both? You can’t go to a place known for their pizza and not get one, right? I ordered the Margherita which comes with light pie sauce, roasted tomatoes, basil, fresh mozzarella and garlic chips. The roasted tomatoes easily being my favorite part. Garlic chips were a bit much for others at the table but I personally enjoyed them. It had that wood-fired crust you’d want as well. A solid pizza for any visit if you’re looking to remain somewhat simple!
Lastly, I ordered the Gangster Panini with hard salami, pepperoni, prosciutto, hot pepper blend, provolone, arugula, and Italian dressing. A delicious panini that would be perfect for lunch or dinner because they certainly don’t skimp on the meat. It was a beautiful blend of flavors most notably the Italian dressing and hot peppers really shined through.
I washed everything down with a cold Yeungling beer and celebrated another east side restaurant worthy of the drive! Service was truly top notch. I look forward to stopping by and exploring more of what Oak and Pie has to offer. Their presentation and execution of flavorful is every reason to go check them out!
