Happy 123123 Day! - ESCAPE With Otis Frampton!
Hey, all!
It’s been a while. But there’s a very good reason for that. For those of you who follow me on social media, you already know part of the story: I’ve been recovering from a 30-day hospital stay due to complications that arose after brain surgery.
Yeah, that happened.
And because of that, I’ve been working toward the goal of making 2024 a year worth living for. Over the last few months I’ve been busy planning for the new year and setting myself up for success in new ways.
I’ll be getting back to posting new comic pages here in my newsletter. I’m also going to start putting out the novels I’ve been working on (yep, I said novels). And I’ll be putting out my newsletter on a weekly basis, every Wednesday, come rain, shine, or hospitalization.
One of the new additions to the newsletter will be a weekly entry in a story I’m calling “The Big Pick.” It’s the story of my two brain surgeries and the troubles that arose from each of them. It will be serialized in bite-sized chunks, as opposed to all in one bite (like I originally planned to do).
I know that some people might not want to read that kind of story (even though I hope it will ultimately be an entertaining and informative read), so here’s the TL;DR version:
I had endoscopic nasal brain surgery on August 25th, 2023 to clean up bits of a benign tumor that remained attached to my optic nerve after my first brain surgery back in 2020. There were complications this time. I leaked brain fluid out of my nose until—two more surgeries and 30 days in hospital later—my doctors fixed the leak. I’ve been recovering for the last 3 months at home. During that time I’ve had to re-learn how to walk, draw, and feel human again. Now I’m alive and well and back to work.
Each entry of “The Big Pick” will be at the bottom of every newsletter, so you don’t have to worry about seeing or reading it if you don’t want to.
I can’t wait to start the new year! There’s a lot of new work that I have to show everyone, and I feel like I’ve been given a second chance to show it all. After what I went through in September, I feel like I’m living on borrowed time. So I plan to make the most of it.
Okay, enough of that. Below is a look at some of my artwork from the past year. I wish I had more to show. Hopefully the last newsletter of 2024 will be packed.
Enjoy, and Happy New Year to you and yours!
Your pal,
Otis
P.S. Today’s date is 12/31/23, or “123123.” The last time this happened was in 1923 and the next time will be in 2123! So enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime (for most people) event!
