Heavenly Hunks: bite sized cookies
Still trying to eat less added sugar, but I bought a bag of these Organic Dark Chocolate Oatmeal Heavenly Hunks on sale at Costco and they are indeed Heavenly. It was ~$8 for 22 ounces.
They taste like very soft cookies. The packaging does say to refrigerate after opening, but it’s fine if you leave it on the shelf too. I found that they get really hard when you refrigerate, so if you do, then you need to allot some time for it to soften. It’s definitely a dessert, but I wish they were bigger because I eat one piece and think “oh that’s it?” There’s 9 grams of sugar in one hunk, which is a little less than Kroger chocolate chip cookies, but the selling point is that it uses real ingredients.
The official company name is E&C Snacks. The founder’s name is Casey and he would make the snacks with his aunt, Ellen, so that’s what the initials stand for. The goal of the product is to be a “healthy indulgence” and using real ingredients to make something sweet. They started in 2013, but are still a growing brand with 13k Instagram followers.
They have a good product as evidenced by getting national Costco distribution. But to be an actual company, product expansion is the next natural path especially if they want to grow. Flavor extensions can only get you far. I picture edible cookie dough as a perfect category to enter.
The term of “healthy indulgence” is an oxymoron because these don’t make me feel any less guilty when eating them. Maybe slightly better than a store bought cookie. Just slightly.
