How to Open a Lesbian Bar
Hey beautiful readers! This is a post I’ve been mulling over for a while and I’m both excited and nervous to share it! Mostly excited, though!!
So here’s my news, which will come as no surprise to those of you who know us in real life: Clover and I are working on opening a lesbian bar in Philadelphia!!!! The most basic quick and dirty deets: it will be called Val’s Lesbian Bar, it will be Valentine’s Day themed, we do not have a location yet but are looking for one somewhere in the general South Philly/Queen Village/South Street area, and we are hosting a couple of fundraiser events coming up soon, details about which can be found on our Instagram (@valslesbianbar). We’re collaborating with some local artists on an art market on February 11th at Pottery Gym, and we have some other upcoming events to be announced soon. If you are in Philly, please do come through and approach me/Clover to say hi ~~ I will be so thrilled to meet you! Anyway, this plan is something that I’ve been dreaming about for years, and together (with lots of help from other friends and community) we are trying to really make it happen.
There is a second part to this announcement: I am launching a paid tier to Dyke Domesticity, the proceeds from which will go to our bar fund! It’s $5 per month or $50 for a year, and for that price you will get two extra posts, maybe sometimes more, which Clover and I will write together. One will be a “How to Open a Lesbian Bar” post, which will chronicle our process, sharing both what we’re learning, how things are going, and how we’re feeling about it. I’m envisioning this as a combo of diary and how-to, but we’ll see how it evolves! The other post will be a recap of a lesbian movie or TV show (so please do send me requests for what we should cover), or some other fun post like some home reno content. Like we’re removing our drop ceilings and doing plastering and stuff currently, and I just know some of you are freaks for that. All my lesbian history posts will remain free for all readers.
