I Went To A Lunar Faire To Celebrate The Last Super Blue Moon Until 2037
When one of your best friends asks if you want to go to a Lunar Faire to commemorate the last Super Blue Moon for 14 years, the answer is yes.
At least, for me it is.
In case you don’t already know (if you follow me on Instagram, you probably do), my girl Ashleigh and I love to get witchy.
We love Halloween.
We’re into crystals and dressing up like a couple of ghouls (or skeletons), channel Wednesday Addams's energy whenever appropriate, and are just genuinely curious about all things supernatural, spooky, and magical. Ergo, there was no hesitation when she alerted me that a Lunar Faire travels around New Jersey and that a special event was taking place on August 30th to celebrate the Super Blue Moon.
What is a Super Blue Moon, you ask? Great question. Per NASA, a supermoon occurs when a full moon is also at its closest point to the Earth, and a blue moon is the second full moon in a month. Blue moons happen every two to three years and, no, they aren’t *actually* blue.

It just so happened that all of these things were occurring at the same time for this Lunar Faire, the first I’d ever heard of, let alone been invited to.
The Lunar Faire is hosted every full and new moon at different fairground locations across the state. There are vendors selling all kinds of artwork, jewelry, and trinkets; psychics, mediums, and tarot readers predicting futures and analyzing the present; a drag show, a drum circle, etc. Some people dress up. Some people come in full costume.
Naturally, I had to go, and I had to do my makeup for the occasion. I decided to go on Pinterest and scope out some inspiration. This look instantly caught my attention:

I used a combination of palettes to configure a look similar to Knook’s gorgeous blue lids. I toyed with a combination of blues, purples, and silver metallics from the ColourPop Back to Hogwarts Pressed Powder Palette and the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette (yes, the one that is discontinued - I should retire mine, but I likely won’t because the colors are too good). Though I didn’t have much time between the end of my work day and the time I had to leave to put something together, I ended up loving the final look! See below.
In the days leading up to the Lunar Faire, I stalked the event’s official Instagram page, taking note of all that would be there to see and do and buy! I had two missions: Get a reading and purchase some crystals. I’m happy to report that I accomplished both.
But first, Ashleigh, her mama, and I took photos with some (real!) skulls, walked up and down the three, long, double-sided rows of vendors to get the lay of the land, and grabbed some empanadas (my first ever!) from a food truck. The event started at 5, but we got there a little after 6, in hopes that by the time we left, it would be sundown and we’d catch a glimpse of the moon. Ironically, the fairgrounds weren’t ideal for moon gazing. We didn’t see Luna until the drive home.
I bought two small crystals. The first was Tigers Eye, which is meant to ward off negative energy, and ground, enhance self-confidence, as well as promote mental clarity. The second was Ametrine, which promotes optimism and helps to clear mental blockages. During my first Reiki session, my healer put a Tigers Eye stone in both of my palms to ground me in the practice, and I found it to be powerful. I was drawn to both stones to help me deepen my practice, as I sometimes find it difficult to get and stay in a meditative state.

As we walked up and down the rows of tents earlier in the evening, I was taking note of the psychics and tarot card readers. I wanted to see if I was being energetically pulled to one person over another. I felt drawn to one woman in particular. She was probably my age, maybe a bit older, maybe a bit younger. Either way, I liked her disposition and felt that spark. So, I asked for a reading and sat down.
I knew I’d made the right choice instantly. She didn’t change her answers based on my facial expressions. She didn’t even see my facial expressions, because her eyes were closed the majority of the time. She was reading me on pure energy. I pulled three cards and she pulled a fourth. I can’t remember what they were, but I do remember what she said.
She said she felt that I was a creative and that she didn’t see me working a typical 9 to 5 in a corporate position. She said something very good was coming my way sometime this fall, likely in October, but warned me that if it came in the form of a work-related opportunity, I should ask a lot of questions because not everything is what it seems. She went on to say that I am the type of person who, when a loved one calls, I pick up on the first or second ring. That I put my family and friends first and myself second, and need to start taking more time for my needs. Our conversation was short, but I did feel like she was legitimate (and I’ve been to a fair share of clairvoyants to know genuine from fraud).
Overall, my experience at the Lunar Faire was a pleasant one (though, to be frank, anytime I get to tap into my witchy side with Ash is a good time). I would definitely go to another one, at a different location to see how the vibes compare. I also need to get some cosplay pixie ears for next time. I saw a bunch of people walking around with pointed ears, and to say that I was jealous would be an understatement.
