One departure, one transfer to watch

Will Emily Monson be the only Boilermaker to depart the program?
The freshman from Murfreesboro, Tenn., entered her name into the transfer portal on Wednesday, according to a source. She didn’t play meaningful minutes during her freshman season.
Monson was part of coach Katie Gearlds’ highly regarded recruiting class, which featured Mary Ashley Stevenson, Rashunda Jones and Sophie Swanson. The trio played significant minutes this past season as the Boilermakers started building a foundation for the future. McKenna Layden, who missed the last part of the season due to a foot injury, is also part of the class.
Monson’s departure gives Gearlds up to four available scholarships to use on transfers during the offseason.
Destini Lombard played three seasons at Stephen F. Austin and is on Purdue’s transfer radar. The native of New Iberia, Louisiana, spent one season at LSU before moving to SFA.
The 5-foot-9 Lombard was named WAC Defensive Player of the Year this past season. She started all 34 games and averaged 10.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, a team-best 4.0 assists, 2.6 steals and totaled 17 blocked shots. Her 89 steals ranked in the top 20 in the country.
Lombard had a season-high 19 points at Alabama and reached double figures 17 times.
