Pumped Up Sun - by Sean Higgins

Good morning, Marysville. We’ve made it to November, with only 20 days to Thanksgiving and 51 to Christmas. It’s the frying pan part of the year.

[Editor’s note: The Sun welcomes back Ben Smith with his recommendations for our November 7 votes. He sent these with the following benediction: “May our vote always count. God bless.” May it be so.]

Snohomish County Executive: Recommend Bob Hagglund. Hagglund would be a breath of fresh air in county leadership as an honest and thoughtful executive leader. It would be marvelous to see Somers get the boot after all of his knee-jerk nonsensical hypocritical support of BLM and PRIDE and years of bad-example leadership. I'm thankful that we have so many competent workers at the county to ensure that the work gets done for the citizens, despite Somers at the helm.

Snohomish County Assessor: I recommend Joe Wanagel. His observation that our property taxes have trended too high is common sense. His opponent Fjelle is supported by a who's-who of our local far-leftists.

Snohomish County Auditor: I'm not happy with the choice between Gobel and Fell. I had been thinking that Gobel was the lesser evil choice. With her full-throated Planned Parenthood support lately, and the fact that most conservative leaders in the county have shifted to prefer Fell despite his past in King County elections history, I think it's a toss-up, from what I can see.

Snohomish County Sheriff: Recommending Adam Fortney to continue as our common sense Sheriff. This is a must-win for us, to keep Snohomish County a bright spot in Western WA by retaining quality law enforcement personnel and protecting our way of life. We'll start losing our sheriff's deputies if his opponent is elected. Johnson is fully on board with the defunding of the police on one hand and being soft on crime, while going along with the state Democrats restricting freedoms on the other. Virtually every endorsement of each Sheriff candidate tells you all you need to know about them.

Snohomish Superior Court Judges: Recommending Anderson and Rogers for judges. These two will do a great job compared to their opponents, as they actually understand interpreting the law well. These two are well-regarded by conservatives around the county.

Marysville Mayor and City Council races: the Mayor and the City Council members are running unopposed. Maybe give 'em a vote anyway to show appreciation for work well done.

Marysville School Board Position #2 and #3: Please vote for Tiffani V. Mondares-Riggs over opponent Eliza Davis. As far as the choice between Beth Holdby and Sherryl Kennedy it's probably a toss-up as best as I can tell. Tiffani will be a new voice on the school board to work to improve the Marysville schools, which need so much improvement. Eliza Davis' statements show she will support more the same failing policies that have been afflicting our local public school students in the district.

Arlington Mayor: Recommending Don Vanney as the common-sense sanity candidate. He ought to be better at leading the city during the next round of growth, and he has good experience as a City Councilman. The current mayor Tolbert has lost her way by supporting the PRIDE marches and promotions scandalousness in Arlington over the last couple of years, and just doesn't lead and manage the city as effectively as Arlington needs.

Arlington City Council: Recommend Michele Blythe and Yvonne M. Gallardo-Van Ornam over Ken Dilbeck and Greg Miller. These two women are two of the better council members, and allied with Don Vanney for common sense issues and managing growth well.

Lake Stevens School Board Position #4: Recommending Shawn Schrader. He'd be a great school board leader, and a fresh one. The incumbent has been on the school board for 13 years, and the school district has certainly not been improving in all the most important ways in that time.

A helpful similar (and exhaustive for the entire county) list can be found on the Snohomish County Republican Party website: snocogop.org on the Candidates 2023 (major countywide races) & Sample Ballot (includes more local races) pages. Very helpful for the school board races and other hyper local races such as fire districts etc.

Mayor Nehring opened the new Pump Track at Jennings Park this week. There’s more to the story as seen in this short video and with additional pics posted here.

As the Lynnwood Times reports, a number of accusations have been made against Sheriff Fortney, and even called out the Everett Herald for this article turning “public safety become a partisan issue.” In the video above Sheriff Fortney talks about it with Brandi Kruse.

The city is asking for input for sake of priority decisions and directing funds related to future transportation improvements. Here’s a direct link to the survey which closes this Sunday, November 5.

There’s a new Facebook Page called the Marysville Local Pulse. Here’s one of their first posts explaining what to expect from their page.

From the 2017-18 school year to the 2023-24 school year, “Homeschooling is now the fastest-growing form of education in the United States.” Here’s a map showing the percent increases in each state. The Sun has gone on record thinking that this rocks.

Just how I like it:
