Review of Shannon Harris' Book "The Woman They Wanted"
How do I start with this book? I am a person rarely overcome with emotion to the point where it blocks out reason and logic, but since this is the case here, it is hard to give you the cold, straight facts.
But I am trying.
It will likely take time to untangle the issues raised, because they aren’t superficial but run straight to the bone. This is one I’ll be thinking through for a while to come. To say it affected me is an understatement.
I rarely read Christian books anymore. Put simply, although they line my shelves, I don’t like them. I can’t quite put my finger on the whys, but I feel they are inauthentic. Or something. Afraid of risks. I don’t know. In any case, I dread the reading of another mundane story that is overly dramatic and uninteresting at the same time.
So, I started this one with trepidation, squinting at the preview on Amazon with one eye closed, wincing as if expecting it to hurt. In the beginning, I was pleasantly surprised and so, kept reading. When the free sample was completed, I smashed that buy button.
And then I kept on it, going until I quickly finished it.
I have not read Jill Duggar’s book yet, because I am still thinking about this last one.
A little while ago, I read a biography about Princess Diana. As fascinated as I am by public figures, it is because there are similarities I need to keep abreast of in order to be effective in my work. The pitfalls are not ones commonly discussed nor are there ones on which there exists a handbook readily available.
And so, this princess was chosen in an era when matching nobility and keeping the aristocratic blood was purer than it is today. And the candidate had to meet certain requirements even above and beyond simply not being a commoner.
Prince Charles had dated Diana’s sister at one point in time prior to becoming interested in her. He had not courted her for very long before marriage was on the table, especially with his father urging him to make a decision.
