Not gonna lie, the footage below has been available for awhile. I put it on You Tube in a 5-part series. It didn’t get many views and it’s still there. But now, I’ve decided to combine it all and add some live songs. I get frustrated when I watch music documentaries that don’t have full songs in them, so I added 5 to tie it all together. I couldn’t shake the idea that I should try to make a cohesive piece out of this chaos. It represents the most dynamic period of the band’s history. Highs were high and the lows were low. Actually, I don’t know how many highs we hit but the potential was always there.
I shot this as you see it, in short clips. I haven’t edited much but I did add text here and there for clarity. The original VHS is of two tours captured in about 45 minutes. First a swing through the South and Midwest. Second our Lalapalooza side-stage run with a few club shows, ending in Portland OR. These were Eric Gaffney’s final days with the band.
You’ll get fleeting glimpses of the bands we played with: Further, Polvo, Love Child, Tsunami, Free Kitten, Thurston Moore and Engine Kid. You’ll see hotel rooms, road-stops and after-show weed parties. You’ll see two kids at Lalapalooza together, one in a Dinosaur Jr shirt and one in a Sebadoh shirt.
