Star Wars books of December, and a look ahead to 2024 releases

It’s hard to believe another year is coming to a close. Looking back, it’s been another excellent year for new Star Wars books — eight High Republic books, several art and reference books, and nearly a dozen other new reads spanning the Star Wars timeline and the Essential Legends Collection.

But there are two reference books and a bunch of single-issue comics and collections still to come in December. Find the full list below, and let me know which ones you’re most looking forward to in the comments!

  • Legends Epic Collection: The New Republic Vol. 7

  • The High Republic Character Encyclopedia

  • Star Wars Dawn of Rebellion: The Visual Guide

  • The High Republic Adventures (2022): Volume 2

  • Yoda trade paperback

  • Darth Vader (2020) #41

  • Doctor Aphra (2020) #39

  • Revelations (2023) #1

A new year is on the horizon, and that means more Star Wars books, comics, and collections to fill our shelves.

In 2024, there are five novels announced so far, plus new waves of Essential Legends books, art books, manga, trade paperbacks, and exciting comic series. The list below is not exhaustive, but these are my top picks for Star Wars books coming in 2024 — so far.

  • Thrawn: Alliances #1

Essential Legends Collection:

  • Mace Windu #1

One of my new favorite things to do as a Star Wars content creator is appear on podcasts. I’m far from being skilled enough to run a podcast, but I do love chatting with fellow fans and online friends around the world about our love of Star Wars books.

Recently, I had the pleasure of being back on Meg’s Now This Is Lit podcast to talk about Star Wars shopping for the holidays — and ourselves, too, of course.

Some of our recommendations include:

  • Shopping small and local at indie bookstores and Bookshop.org

  • Searching for vintage, used, and special edition books through Thriftbooks.com, used bookstores, and resale groups like this one

  • Bookish accessories like bookmarks, mugs, t-shirts, totes, and annotation supplies

On the episode, I also waxed poetic about my love of Goodwill Bookstores and spending day dates with my husband venturing beyond our city to find used bookstores and coming home with a tote bag full of books for less than $50.

Not into physical gifting for the holidays? Offering a day of book shopping is an excellent gift idea.
