The Black vs. White NBA All-Stars

I recently came across this clip from The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone, and Patrick Beverley and his co-host were commentating on how Rashard Mendenhall, a former NFL player, was suggesting that there should be a Black vs. White football game.

And then the two hosts started listing off names of current NBA players that would make it into a Black vs. White All-Star Game.

After watching this hilarious clip, I thought it would be fun to make my own list, which is kind of messed up seeing how I’m writing this article on MLK Day.

Martin Luther King, Jr. fought for and preached love and unity for all people, and I’m sitting here in this cozy coffee shop segregating black and white basketball players like I’m Donald Sterling.

Anywhoo… me being a piece of shit with fucked up priorities aside…

My roster, unlike Beverley’s, will include great White and Black NBA players from the 80s and beyond.

So, here’s who would compete in my Black vs. White NBA All-Star Game:

Let’s start with Team White:

Starters

  • John Stockton (10-time NBA All-Star)

  • Chris Mullin (5-time NBA All-Star)

  • Larry Bird (12-time NBA All-Star)

  • Dirk Nowitzki (14-time NBA All-Star)

  • Nikola Jokic (5-time NBA All-Star)

Bench

  • Kevin Love (5-time NBA All-Star)

  • Kevin McHale (7-time NBA All-Star)

  • Pau Gasol (6-time NBA All-Star)

  • Peja Stojakovic (3-time NBA All-Star)

  • Detlef Schrempf (3-time NBA All-Star)

  • Luka Doncic (4-time NBA All-Star)*

  • Steve Nash (8-time NBA All-Star)

  • Jason Kidd (10-time NBA All-Star) -Note: Kidd is half-black. But he looks more White than Black and Team White needs players, thus I’m putting him on this team.

Now, for Team Black:

Starters

  • Magic Johnson (12-time NBA All-Star)

  • Kobe Bryant (18-time NBA All-Star)

  • Michael Jordan (14-time NBA All-Star)

  • LeBron James (19-time NBA All-Star)*

  • Shaquille O’Neal (15-time NBA All-Star)

Bench

  • Kevin Garnett (15-time NBA All-Star)

  • Karl Malone (14-time NBA All-Star)

  • Hakeem Olajuwon (12-time NBA All-Star)

  • Isiah Thomas (12-time NBA All-Star)

  • Steph Curry (9-time NBA All-Star)*

  • Kevin Durant (13-time NBA All-Star)*

  • Tim Duncan (15-time NBA All-Star)

  • Dwyane Wade (13-time NBA All-Star)

*Denotes a player who is still in the league and has an opportunity to make more All-Star teams.

These are my All-Star teams.

It was much harder and took waaayy longer than I expected (or wanted to spend time on) but this list is of utmost importance and you gotta spend time on the things that are important to you, right?

So, yeah.

Anyway, do you agree with my Black vs. White All-Star roster? Would you swap any of these players for someone else?

Additionally, who do you think would win this game?
