The Swamp Thing and Abby ArcaneWeird Romance
The story of the Swamp Thing and Abby Arcane’s romance is a heart-warming story of self-discovery combined with a massive dose of outlandish circumstances.
Abby Arcane and the Swamp Thing look like beauty and a beast, but their differences are more than just about their appearances. The Swamp Thing is nature in a monstrous form to ensure that he is able to protect the Green, the elemental force of life. Abby Arcane is from an aristocratic background marked by tragedy. She lost her mother at a young age and she is intended as the elemental force of the Rot. That would be the exact opposite of the Swamp Thing.
Abby’s uncle, Anton Arcane wants to harness the powers of the Swamp Thing and Abby for his own nefarious objectives. To do so, Anton starts to ingratiate himself with Abby’s husband. Did I mention that Abby was married to a abuse man or that Anton commands a strange collection of demonic powers? Tragedy and magic, there’s a lot of it in the Swamp Thing stories.
Anton uses dark spells to corrupt the mind of Abby’s husband until a car crash inflicts massive injuries on Abby’s husband who then gives himself over to the control of Anton. Abby’s uncle uses the wounded body of Abby’s husband to pursue Abby.
The intervention of the Swamp Thing puts an end of Anton’s pursuit of Abby and gives Abby the opportunity to have a new life.
With her husband in a coma and totally dependent on a life support machine, Abby spends a good deal of time with the Swamp Thing. Cautiously, Abby expresses her love for the Swamp Thing and they kiss.
Here’s an interesting piece of trivia that you will never need: according to Abby Arcane, the Swamp Thing’s kisses taste of lime. That’s a win for Abby who likes lime.
The Swamp Thing is concerned that as a human, Abby has physical needs that the Swamp Thing will not be able to fulfill because he is made of the swamp. But full of the wonders of nature, the Swamp Thing has a plan.
He steps into the swamp and pulls a tuber from his chest. A potato is a tuber, it’s a way for a plant to store nutrients from which is regrows itself. Except there isn’t going to be any growing from this tuber, because Abby eats the tuber the Swamp Thing pulls from his chest. And that isn’t even the weirdest part of this love scene.
When Abby eats the tuber, she absorbs some of the Swamp Thing’s consciousness which enables her to sees the world as The Swamp Thing sees the world.
In a series of half a dozen psychedelic pages, Abby experiences the world through a shared consciousness with the Swamp Thing. She feels the beauty in the smallest insects of the cosmic wonder of life surrounding her. She is overwhelmed by the splendor and magnificence and nature while also feeling she is an essential part of the world.
As the experience continues, the distinction between Abby and the Swamp Thing fades. At one point she states “We are one creature. And all that there is, is in us.”
She feels the passion and terror of life, but embracing it all, she undergoes a wonderful and exhausting experience in which she feels a physical, emotional and psychological connection with the Swamp Thing.
At the end of the experience, her usual vision returns and she is more than a little drained by the experience. Afterwards, she looks at the Swamp Thing and asks him if they are going out. They embrace and kiss.
Happy Valentine’s Day. May your day be full of lime (if you like lime).
