Unbothered. Moisturized. Happy. In my lane. Focused. Flourishing.
Tomorrow I am giving a talk to a professional organization I am a member of. I am nervous but excited about my presentation. It’s a friendly crowd and many of my work besties will be there. However, the host asked me to share my professional bio and as I hit sent, I felt like I wanted to die. Who is this person?! And why do I find her so annoying?!
Oh, I know why. She’s listed her title, proudly. She mentions a list of high-profile clients. She mentions she runs a team. She mentions she is a co-founder of a well-known organization. She mentions she’s a recipient of several community service and leadership awards. She did not lie about any of the above. But has phrased it all JUST SO, the way she has been taught to phrase things in order to sound accomplished and desirable. Because she spent years thinking that work is identity and that professional growth and recognition would lead to feeling fulfilled. She was wrong.
