Using Ghost Screens with your Dribble Drive Motion Offense
In this newsletter, we are going to discuss ways to use ghost screens to create gaps for your Dribble Drive Motion Offense.
Ghost screens are great actions against teams that like to switch.
What is a Ghost Screen?
A fake ball screen after which the would-be screener sprints away into space; a pick-and-pop, but without the pick
Let’s consider how you can incorporate these with your Drive and Kick offense philosophies.
Shallow Ghost - Corner and Same Side Slot
Arkansas WBB uses a ghost on the same side of the floor from the corner up. You don’t see a ghost screen usually happening at this angle.
Ghost Post Veer - This action is out of typical 4 out 1 in DDM with the post coming up to set a ghost then goes and veer screen for the corner so this can lead to the downhill drive or reverse pivot 3-point attempt.
Sacramento Kings - Corner Ghost
The Kings use a Ghost Screen end of the quarter from the opposite corner, and they have an opposite slot slide to the corner, creating the gap and downhill attack.
Northern Kentucky - Iverson Ghost
They use a Horns Iverson Action into a Ghost screen that flows right into their Dribble Drive Motion, creating a gap to get downhill.
Boston Celtics 5 out Stretch Ghost into 4 out 1 in DDM
The Celtics have Jaylen Brown set a ghost screen out of the stretch spot in 5 out and then cut to the dunker spot.
Boston Celtics 5 out Wide Ghost
The Celtics run 5 out Wide for Tatum but he is not open so he turns into a Ghost screen and they get downhill and it can flow right into DDM.
