When Felix and I Actually Met

This week’s letter is free! Last week was the anniversary of when I went on Felix’s podcast and my world turned upside down. To celebrate, I dropped the video where we spill the tea on everything - from our age gap, to when his best friend spied on me at a party, and so much more. Watch it below.

If you like the content in today’s letter, you can pay $6 a month to get it in your inbox every week. I’m no mathematical genius, but I’m pretty sure that’s less an one iced coffee from Blank Street.

In this letter:

  • Another giveaway because you all went crazy for the diamond necklace

  • Weekly report (+ links of things I’m currently obsessed with)

  • The truth about when Felix and I actually met

Seriously, since you all loved the diamond necklace giveaway, I’m giving away some of my favorite beauty products: Elemis, The Outset, Saie, to name a few. If you’re a subscriber, you’ve already been entered to win. If you were sent this email by a friend, subscribe here for a chance to win. Comment below to double your chances of winning!

REPORT ✨✨✨

Reading: “Betches Love This” was my jam all through college. I loved the blog’s sarcasm and millennial POV, so much so that I applied to work at Betches even before I graduated. I didn't get the job - I ended up at Refinery29 as my first post-college job - but remained a huge fan. This New York Times article describes how Betches succeeded when many other millennial media companies failed and how they became rich by truly doing what they love and not copying others.

Eating: Last night, I went to The Polo Bar for the first time. The vibes are indeed immaculate. It has a very sexy New York energy. The service is impeccable. The drinks are fire - I had the most dirty, filthy martini and it was perfect.

And while I have not been this hungover on a weekday in a very long time, the caviar with potatoes was insane, the burger can’t be beat, and the sundae is the perfect ending.

We also played Let’s Fucking Date, which made for a great double date activity. I also noticed that Felix and my answers have changed over the last year, so if you’re looking for a little date night entertainment, I would def whip it out with your significant other (or situationship lmao)

Proud Of: Myself. At the beginning of the year, I picked the word “focus” as my word of the year, which I had never done before. As you know, I am obsessed with vision-boarding as a way to manifest my goals, so I didn’t think picking a word was particularly necessary. Perhaps it would be limiting, if anything?

I was wrong. It’s nearly halfway into the year (how???) and I am more focused than I have ever been. I go on social media less, I compare myself less, and I have asked my managers to clear my schedule and RSVP “no” to events so I can have more time to write.

Last week, I had incredible meetings in LA, which got me really excited about my future self and the career I am trying to transition into. Writing has been extremely challenging - it’s frustrating, isolating, tedious, exhausting, and lacks any instant gratification I would get by posting something on social media.

However, I am a big believer that the way we speak about ourselves/our experiences is super important. When I was dating, I refused to say “it sucked” because I knew that would invite negative energy in. So I am going to apply a similar method here and I’m rebranding my experience with writing as: challenging, adventurous, rewarding and healing!!!!!!

One of my biggest fears in life is complacency and not getting outside of my comfort zone. While I have had moments of imposter syndrome, thinking, “could I really do this?”, I channel my inner SFK and remind myself that I am the writer, producer, director and star of my plot — and if I want to be a writer and sell this project, I will make it fucking happen.

Note to self: make my word next year “RICH” (and in all caps!)

Obsessed With: Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Baby Reindeer, which intensified following the recent on-camera interview with the alleged real-life Martha, I wanted to understand why this series struck a nerve around the world. So, I listened to the podcast Psychology in Seattle, which someone suggested because they have an episode called “Baby Reindeer Narcissism.”

I found the podcast’s Baby Reindeer-focused episode to be fascinating (but way too long). The perspective of a seasoned psychologist on the personality disorders depicted in the series helped to broaden my understanding of the characters and foster greater empathy towards their complex behaviors.

It’s worth noting that the podcast is sponsored by Better Help, a mental health service– a reminder that therapy can be beneficial to anyone, not just those depicted in the series. Also, has anyone actually ever tried Better Help? I feel like it sponsors every single podcast I listen to but does it actually provide… better help? LOL.

Traveling: One thing I cherish is the mother-daughter trips I’ve taken with my mami. Starting when I was 3-months-old, she took me on my first trip to Argentina. We have been all over the world and we love doing the same things while we are abroad, like walking around non-stop and seeing art. Our only fight is about how early we need to be at the airport… guess who needs to be there 4 hours before departure?!

Our next trip together is to Stockholm and Copenhagen. I’ve been to Copenhagen on a brand trip with Joe & The Juice last year, but I didn’t get to do that much other than blackout at the company party, so I’m delighted to go back.

I literally have this issue where I cannot NOT overpack for the fucking life of me. It’s actually criminal and every time I get to the kiosk, I'm like, “omigod, omigod please let it be under 50 pounds.” I'm the girl that’s holding up the entire line to repack my bags so I can avoid the fee. I’ve decided I am DONE with arriving at the airport and having to play a guessing game when it comes to an overweight suitcase.

In this substack, I explained my new favorite purchase, which is a scale for your suitcase. It is absolutely necessary so I don’t waste a million dollars over a slightly overweight suitcase… because I wanted to bring ten pairs of shoes.

Streaming (audio): As we continue to see content from this year’s Met Gala on social media, it’s worth mentioning a podcast that’s gaining traction among the fashion girlies: Fashion People with Lauren Sherman. Lauren, the New York editor of the Business of Fashion, keeps everyone up-to-date on fashion gossip, the movements within designer circles and fashion houses, and much more. She also has an upcoming book called Selling Sexy, which delves into the inner workings of Victoria’s Secret. That’s going to be juicy!

Speaking of fashion, here’s what I’m obsessed with this week:

  • Capri’s are in and I don’t hate them…? Here is an inexpensive pair so you can dip your toe into the trend without breaking the bank.

  • Obsessed with everything my friend Cass makes – especially this belt. I own it in two colors and it truly elevates every outfit. Use my code SERENA20 for 20% off sitewide!!

  • Dynamite has the best fitting basics and I’ll die on that hill. This dress is a dupe for the Helsa one I own (for half the price). I find that the sizes run a little big, so I’d size down!

  • Last week I posted this video of Felix and I, and it went super fucking viral.

There were some comments of people suggesting that we had already met and were dating before recording the podcast. Honestly, fair. While I’m flattered because I know our chemistry (and sexual tension) was next-level, the truth is… Felix and I did meet on May 8th, 2023, the day this podcast was filmed.

…but according to invisible string theory, we were both at Meredith Duxbury’s Halloween party on October 27th, 2022.

Did the spark start there without us knowing? Unclear. I’m pretty sure we both blacked out and I think he brought another girl as his date? Lol. Watch the video and decide for yourself:
