White Tiger will make an appearance in the new Disney and Marvel TV show Daredevil: Born Again.

It’s not unusual to have multiple characters with the same name. We have different characters taking over the mantel of different superheroes. After the death of Superman, four different heroes took up the cape (technically Steel didn’t use a cape). Other heroes have taken on the cowl of Batman. The title of Captain America has moved from Steve Rogers (and back again) and Captain Marvel was not always Carol Danvers. And don’t even get me started with multiverse.

But it’s good to know exactly who’s who when it comes to our superheroes.

When it comes to White Tiger in the Daredevil TV show, we have a couple of interesting options.

Despite being connected to the Marvel cinematic universe with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther movies, two of the White Tigers can be category of ‘probably not going to be in Daredevil’.

The High Evolutionary (the guy who makes Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3) creates a superhero out of a tiger. Just like in the movie, the High Evolutionary takes an animal and gives them humanoid qualities Except instead of a racoon, he does it to a tiger.

The Black Panther connection is nothing so elaborate. A man named Kevin Cole discovers some of Black Panther’s tech and studies under T’challa. He wasn’t exactly going to call himself Smaller Panther, so White Tiger seems like a good alternative.

Neither of these (despite being interesting characters) are in the running for Daredevil.

The three Sons of the Tiger can also be excluded, especially because they are never called the White Tiger. They are, however, directly connected to the first White Tiger, Hector Ayala.

The Sons of the Tiger first appeared in The Deadly Hands of King Fu. The three characters, Lin Sun, Abe Brown and Bob Diamond, each had a Jade amulet made from pieces of a statue from the hidden city of K’un-Lun (you might remember the place from Iron Fist stories). The pieces contain the power of the Tiger God and enhance the abilities of the three men when they work together.

When betrayal and mistrust creeps into their relationship, they disband and discard the amulets. That’s were Hector Ayala comes in.

Hector finds the three amulets and when he puts them on he is transformed into the White Tiger. Unlike the Sons of the Tiger, Hector has a superhero suit and superhero powers. He has super human strength, incredible speed and agility, accelerated healing and a level of stamina rivaling Captain America.

Hector has a bit of a rough time. One of the first things that happen to him is he becomes a suspect in a murder. Sure he was there, he was trying to help when a ganga member turns a gun on him. When the gang member is killed, the White Tiger and Hector (because some of his possessions were found at the scene) become murder suspects.

He also attracts the attention of the Prowler who was working with the gang member who was killed. The White Tiger and the Prowler work it out, but it’s a difficult start for Hector and it doesn’t get any better.

Hector’s identity is revealed by a super villain which has devastating consequences for his family. He discovers that the amulet is actually addictive and despite retiring, has a relapse. It will be his last. The end of Hector’s career is similar to the start of his career and he becomes a murder suspect again.

The amulets are passed to Hector’s niece, Angela del Toro. From the moment Angela touches the amulets, she is connected to the power of the Tiger God. She was a former FBI agent and now becomes a superhero. Black Widow gets her a new super suit and Anegla starts fighting crime in Hell’s Kitchen (there is a vacancy because Daredevil is currently in prison).

Angela makes use of the White Tiger’s ability to regenerate after she . She also develops (or discovers) a few extra power including the ability to turn invisible. Unfortunately Angela does not evade Lady Bullseye or the Hand.

After an unfortunate turn of events (Spoiler: Lady Bullseye ambushes her at home and kills her), Angela is brought back from the dead and starts working for the Hand and later works for the Maker (the evil version of Reed Richards from a different universe).

After Angela has the amulets take from her for being a super villain, Hector’s younger sister, Ava Ayala, inherits the power of the White Tiger. Of the three amulet enhanced White Tiger, Ava is probably the least likely to appear in Daredevil, but she is an interesting character.

After Hector’s identity is revealed, Ava is left alone and isolated from her brother. When she becomes the White Tiger, Ava joins the Avenger Academy, then the New Avengers and Mighty Avengers. She fights alongside Power Man and Sunspot.

The challenges faced by Ava involve the force of the Tiger God taking over her body. Not cool Tiger God!

In situations of extreme danger, the Tiger God possesses Ava and goes full Tiger! Ava is stopped on a couple of occasions from taking a life, including the villain who killed her family.

The White Tiger provides some really interesting options for super heroes in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again TV show. Any of the three amulet empowered White Tigers could appear, but it is likely to be Hector.

Matt Murdock previously appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home as Peter Parker’s legal representative. There is a strong possibility that Hector could get into trouble and need Matt Murdock’s help.

Daredevil: Born Again will be arriving to Disney+ in 2025.
