You can't start a fire without a spark

The lives we want, the world we desire, the changes we dream to see, all lay right on the other side of curiosity and courageous choices. They may seem far-reaching and impossible to achieve, but as with any groundbreaking change, all it takes is to set a ball in motion.

We can never know what doors one conscious choice will open. We can never anticipate the opportunities of change one courageous heart can spark. All we know is that we have the power to activate change at any moment. That no matter who we are or where we come from, we have the power to choose change.

Sometimes that change is subtle, like a silent shift inside your heart that starts to believe in something better. Other times, change comes in boldly sharing your visions and making sure accountability is met for promises of a better world. But no matter how small or big your change might look like today, you always hold the power to spark it. You may not be able to see the entire room yet, but dreams of better worlds can stay alive, even if you’re just dancing in the dark.

Some of you may have caught that I'm making Bruce Springsteen references. His song Dancing In the Dark has played a big part in my life since I was little. The lyrics “You can’t start a fire without a spark” are tattooed on the inside of my arm and I try to remind myself of those words often.

A journey will always seem long before it’s started. Change will always seem close to impossible until it’s done. However, all you need is a tiny spark, a little act that can give fuel to an entire fire. So don’t underestimate what can be done when you choose to act. The lives we want, the worlds we dream of, lay right beyond the other side of curiosity and conscious choices.
